On Monday 3 March, CBL Fastenings Sales Manager Alan Downer paid a special visit to The Langney Shed in Eastbourne, where he was warmly welcomed with a cup of tea and the opportunity to see first-hand the inspiring work taking place within this thriving community space.
The purpose of the visit was to donate a generous selection of essential fastenings — including nuts, bolts, screws and washers — to support the Shed’s wide range of hands-on projects. The donation will help ensure members have the materials they need to continue their popular “make and mend” activities, from practical repairs to creative builds that benefit both members and the wider local community.
The Langney Shed provides a welcoming and inclusive space, primarily for older men, to come together, socialise and work on meaningful projects. More than just a workshop, it offers companionship, conversation and the chance to share skills and stories in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Andy Fisher, Coordinator at The Langney Shed, expressed his appreciation for the contribution:
“A huge thank you to Alan from CBL Fastenings for a super generous donation of nuts, bolts and screws. We are constantly surprised and always grateful for the generosity of our local businesses.”
Visitors to the Shed can expect more than sawdust and spanners. It’s a place where friendships are formed, experience is shared and members can “put the world to rights” while working side by side. Projects range from personal builds to practical items created for local groups and charities — all driven by the skills and enthusiasm of its members.
Speaking after his visit, Alan Downer said:
“It was lovely to chat with Andy and have a look around the shed workspace. We were very happy to donate to such a lovely charity.”
The Langney Shed is based at the Langney Priory site on Etchingham Road and is open every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am to 4pm. New members and visitors are always welcome to pop in for a chat, see what’s underway and find out how to get involved.
With continued support from local businesses like CBL Fastenings, The Langney Shed remains a shining example of community spirit in action — proving that sometimes, the smallest nuts and bolts can help hold something truly special together.
