CBL Fastenings, a UK-based fastenings specialist has successfully secured and delivered a major high-volume contract for a global solar panel manufacturer, addressing supply chain disruptions while improving efficiency, cost stability, and delivery performance.
Streamlining Supply Amid Global Disruption
The client, a large-scale solar panel producer, had been facing ongoing challenges with suppliers in the Far East. Long lead times, inconsistent supply, and exposure to global economic volatility were placing pressure on production schedules and costs. With demand for solar installations continuing to grow, the manufacturer needed a more reliable and agile supply chain closer to home.
At the same time, the complexity of the panel installation kits – requiring multiple fastening components – was adding inefficiencies in both sourcing and assembly.
Engineering a Smarter Solution
Drawing on more than 35 years of experience in the fastenings industry, CBL Fastenings worked closely with the client to redesign part of the installation kit. Two separate components were combined into a single custom-engineered fastening, reducing both material use and assembly complexity.
By shifting production of this new component to the UK, the company significantly shortened lead times and removed many of the risks associated with overseas sourcing. The solution also included a comprehensive inventory management service: CBL Fastenings now holds stock on behalf of the client, enabling flexible call-off orders and freeing up valuable warehouse space.
Additionally, the fastenings firm took over kitting responsibilities, assembling components before delivery. This reduced the client’s internal workload and allowed their team to focus on core manufacturing operations.
Delivering Stability and Measurable Results
A key feature of the contract is fixed pricing for its duration, protecting the client from fluctuations in raw material costs and providing long-term financial certainty.
The results have been substantial:
- Consistently met delivery timelines
- A more secure and resilient supply chain
- Reduced overall costs
- Lower operational pressure through outsourced kitting and inventory management
A Partnership Approach
The contract builds on an existing relationship between the two companies, strengthened through close communication and collaboration. A dedicated sales manager and accessible support team ensure ongoing responsiveness, while the supplier’s capabilities in custom manufacturing, sourcing, and nationwide distribution continue to underpin the partnership.
As supply chains remain under scrutiny across industries, this project highlights how localised manufacturing, product innovation, and integrated logistics can deliver both stability and competitive advantage.
